Hij vraagt zich af waarom tussen de goedlopende etalages, restauranten en bazaren De machine moet malen en raspen en bijten.  Met het laatste tandwiel, in zijn scheen. Hij vreest dat de vellen eraf schrapen  Tot ze hangen rond zijn enkel en Het zaagblad zijn scheen doormidden freest. Er is huid in het spel en het spel is net begonnen. Hij kijkt op en hij verbeeld, achter de ramen, op balkonnen, hangend over balustraden Een menigte, zwaaiend.
